Hawaii 2015

May 7 - 8 and the cruise

In  May, Gail and I traveled to Hawaii to celebrate our 48th wedding anniversary (actual date is June 3) and for Gail to re-establish her Hawaiian roots. She had lived there with her family in 1956-57 because her dad was stationed there in the Coast Guard. She planned the entire trip and we had 2 days in Honolulu and then a 7 day 4 island cruise and then 4 more days in Honolulu.
We arrived with a 6 hour time difference on Thursday May 7 and was given leis upon arrival.
We stayed at the Waikiki Beach Marriott right on the beach and these are some pictures from our deck.

We ate many times with views like this.
A stroll down Waikiki Beach looked like this which is much different from the small sleepy town of 1956.

A picture of the queen.

We are dressed up for our pictures.

The cruise began on Saturday May 9 and we met this very authentic Hawaiian mother and two daughters on board, they were very sweet Christians.

First stop was Kahului, Maui, where Gail made some friends and we traveled "The Road to Hannah" and rode in a submarine. Oh did I mention that we had a wonderful balcony room where we were served many breakfasts together?.

Beautiful surf and waterfall views.

We  got into a submarine and submerged to about  130 feet and saw fish. Fun time!

Our next island was the big island of Hawaii. First day we were at Hilo and visited Volcanoes National Park. We only saw steam and no actual lava enenthough some other busses that day did.

Flowers...flowers...flowers.

On Wednesday we ported at Kona and toured there and walked to the YWAM headquarters site.
First the Painted Church with breadfruit trees.

Kona YWAM base.

An ancient site of refuge.

Thursday we were in Nawiliwili, Kauai. We took a helicopter ride and visited both Allerton Garden and the McBryde Garden in the Lawai Valley on the south shore of Kauai. with a blowhole and artistic floral rooms.

The helicopter ride was beautiful.

The following post will be for May 16 - 20, 2015.
