Honolulu from May 16 - 20

When we diembarked from the cruise ship on Saturday, we picked up a car and drove to Park Shore Waikiki Hotel. It is right on the beachfront. We swam in the pool before getting our room. Notice the beach behind us.

The restaurant was attached to the hotel and another one was very close. We were across the street on the side from the Zoo. Notice the blue taro bread.

On Sunday morning we walked to a small FourSquare Church called Hope Chapel Waikiki. Character is a choice was preached by a barefooted pastor playing an electric ukulele. 

Sunday night we drove to Germaine's Luau which is a nice family style luau.

We toured Oahu and saw many places like Hananma Bay Nature Preserve.

Varsity Circle where Gail and her sister and parents lived in 1956 when he was stationed in the Coast Guard. Gail did not remember these apartments but Google says that they were built in 1953.

Pearl Harbor

Since my Mon was a Rosie the Riveter I thought about her.

This gentleman is a 98 year old Pearl Harbor attack survivor.

Several quarts of oil still oozes out of the USS Arizonia each day.

This is the USS Missouri on board which the WWII surrender  was signed in Tokyo harbor.

The zoo was across the street from the Park Shore Waikiki hotel.

Gail's main reason to visit Hawaii was because she lived there in 1956 while her dad was stationed in Honolulu. Our tour bus driver knew that her old school was renamed Manoa from Park and said that her old street, Varsity Circle was still there. They do not tear many buildings down and current apartment buildings there were built in 1953. We drove to the school and looked around. She remembered a one story and a two story building. The new buildings were all one story but when we walked around the back there they were, the two buildings she remembered with the steps she remembered. They are now adjoining the new school buildings by a sidewalk and are part of a park. But those are the buildings.
