Sao Paulo July 2012

We (most of the teaching team from Assis) traveled to Sao Paulo on July 21 for some R and R and to see some former English students from the Richmond YWAM base, who live in the Sao Paulo area.  This picture above was taken with coach Andre (standing next to me from our Spring 2009 English school in Va).  He coaches a church team of 10 year olds where many of the parents are in prison or just not around.  Great ministry.  He allowed me to pray for the team prior to the game.  What a privilege. His team is called Brothers and the motto on the back of the jersey says "Jesus loves you".  Here he is with his son Jose Neto.
Great dad. We stayed in an apartment that his family had vacated only five days before we arrived. It took us three days to warm up from being in Assis and then family and friends took us around the city.  I am told that Sao Paulo city has 35 million people and with the surrounding suburbs the total is 50 million. It takes a long time to drive around and they all drive so fast and swerve in and out of traffic but they have very few accidents and the people are really very nice to each other.
They took us to a park in downtown on Avenue Paulista (very famous they say) and it was beautiful.  There were vendors there to buy from. Mary Jane looks things over.

One day we had a special special special treat. Tanya, who we taught with in Richmond and is from Belarus and married Helder from one of our classes came for a visit.  They have a darling daughter, Alessandra.

Tanya's daughter and Lecia's son Caleb.
It was so good to see them again. Because of what he learned in English school he now is a pilot for Tam.
We visited Parque Villa-lobos with its orchid growing dome.
A model of a bird's nest.
Street scenes.

We toured a technology museum.  The faces are actually mine, Mary Jane's and Gail's. This is the orchid I gave Gail for her birthday.
We stopped at a restaurant for pastels (my favorite Brazilian food).  Sonia on the phone, Andre's wife Adrianna with Mary Jane, and Carrie with Gail and myself.
Where we stayed (the center door led up to the second floor) and our view of the street from the second floor.
A bus station (I think) and the history of Brasil museum.
Sweet Carrie.
Museum garden and cafe. Ligia and 2 Adriannas.
Shopping in the very crowded 25 de Marco street area.  Shops inside and outside.
A very special treat for us was a Brazilian BBQ held at the home of Danilo from our last Eng Language and Culture class in Richmond.  Former ELC students living in the Sao Paulo area were invited so we saw former students from various classes and  years.
Licia with sisters Sandra and Rose.
Fatima and friends.
 A possible future student, Vivian.
 Carrie and Erica.
CC and Carrie.
 Fatima and Danilo.
Former students with Licia, Gail and myself.
The Apostle Paul visited churches that he had pioneered and was pleased to see their spiritual growth.  As teachers nothing is as rewarding as hearing from former and present students of how God has used you to show them Jesus.  These students confirmed that to us.  God be praised!
