Gail and I met up with Kathy and Dale in Santiago Chile in January 2009. They had lived there for many years and helped begin YWAM bases and schools. We were picked up by Chelo and driven south and then west to Pichilemu, the surfing capital of Chile. The southern highway was very nice but it was the only way south out of the capital city. When the earthquakes struck one year later that highway was destroyed and traveling south was quite a problem.
Our first stop was at a vegetable stand and the produce there was gigantic. Everything grows so well in Chile.

Gail checks out the produce.

Not exactly Ukrops. The weather was nice and hot at this point but as soon as we crested a hill it cooled off tremendously . This is a map of Pichilemu showing important places.

We met to discuss teaching assignments at the home of Jason and Loly Brown.

New friends are quickly made. These two girls were just visiting the base and one of then just fell in love with Gail.

Signs on the base show that it is for ministering to surfers and campers.

Gail preached one time at base chapel and I another (no picts of me).

Students came from various backgrounds and countries.

We met new friends and saw beautiful sunsets and beaches.

Punta de Lobos is the rock formation where many surfers gather.

We visited three small schools in the area that Kathy has ministered to for several years.

A US olympic team member showed up at the pool for a meet.

One day we visited a salt producing place up river. The salt from the sea flows up river and is captured in ponds, drained and dried.

After 6 1/2 weeks in Pichilemu we left for Santiago and the Andes. Run off from the Andes flows through the city.

We rode a cable car up to the top of the Mary statue hill and viewed the entire city of about 8 million people.

We drove up to the Nuevo...ski resort at the top of the Andes (it was summer in Chile so very little snow).

Check out the road sign.
